chin remodelling

Chin reduction surgery involves re-shaping the chin by removing chin bone in order to give a balanced look to the face. It requires careful pre-surgery investigation by your surgeon to establish that jaw function and speech will not be adversely affected by the procedure.

About chin reduction

Chin reduction surgery is a relatively simple procedure performed to transform your appearance, create a more harmonious profile, and help you feel better about the way you look.

The best candidates for chin reduction surgery are persons in good physical and mental health who have realistic expectations for the result of their operation. Patients should be at least 20 years old, as chin development is at its end.

Your consultation

chin remodelling overseas

During your consultation your surgeon will take a general medical history and ask about any other surgeries you might have had in the past. He will also ask you about your goals and expectations. Then he will talk to you about the various options available, and will advise you on the best procedure for you.

Preparing for surgery

After a thorough examination and a full medical history, your surgeon will discuss with you about the technique used to correct the problem.

Before your surgery:

  • You should not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen for 3 weeks before surgery.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to surgery.
  • Stop or reduce smoking for at least 2 weeks prior and after surgery.
  • Do not wear any jewellery, contact lenses, makeup or nail polish.

Your operation

cheap chin remodelling

Chin reduction surgery requires the surgeon to make an incision either in the base of the mouth between the gum and lower lip or underneath the chin, exposing the chin and jawbones. The bone is then reworked, either through repositioning, removal or sculpting, before the incision is closed. If incision takes place through the mouth, no scarring will be visible. It is not uncommon for the procedure to be performed in conjunction with a face lift or nose reshaping.

Just like chin augmentation, chin reduction is usually performed under general anaesthesia and is done as a day case. Depending upon the amount of work required, surgery will take between 1 and 3 hours to complete.

Recovery

A full recovery takes between 6 and 8 weeks, although normal activities can resume in as little as 5 to 10 days. Bruising and swelling of the jaw, neck and lower cheeks is to be expected following surgery, as is nausea resulting from the general anaesthetic.

Chewing and maybe swallowing will be difficult in the first few days following surgery so a light diet with plenty of liquid should be consumed during this period.

Risks and complications

With chin augmentation, there is a risk of infection caused by a breakdown of incisions within your mouth. If this happens, your surgeon will advise you to remove the implant in order to control the infection. The procedure can be repeated three to four months later.

Numbness of the lower lip occurs, but it is usually a temporary phenomenon. Sensation usually returns to normal after re-growth of the nerve endings in the chin area. All these are possible complications but unlikely to occur, but nevertheless should be discussed fully with your surgeon.

Cost of your surgery

A few things to remember when considering the cost of surgery:

  • Dr Stavros Eleftheriou is a Specialist in Cosmetic Facial Surgery offering the latest techniques available in the field today.
  • Our prices are very affordable within Europe and are all inclusive: consultation, admission, surgical fee, anesthetist fee, and hospital fee, all medication while at the clinic, and all our after care. You don’t have to worry about any hidden costs that may appear after your surgery.
  • Your surgery takes place in a hospital based environment, where you are in the good hands of a professional, caring staff, happy to address your concerns and needs.
  • Post-surgery consultations and aftercare will be performed in the UK. You will not need to travel to Cyprus for your routine check ups.
  • The procedures recommended are tailor made to suit your individual needs.
  • Deciding on what kind of anaesthetic is most appropriate and how long you will need to stay in hospital are also important factors when you are quoted a price.

In addition, there is an obvious price advantage when having surgery in our clinic in Cyprus compared to a UK hospital. Cyprus is a country with significant lower healthcare costs than the ones in UK or other Western European countries.

To help you decide easier, the following comparison list should give you an idea of the advantages in choosing our clinic. Once you have decided on surgery, please contact us to receive a detailed quotation that reflects the actual cost of your surgery.

ProcedureAverage UK PricePrice guidance Cyprus
Upper or Lower Blepharoplasty £ 3,000 £ 1,100
Facelift with neck lift £ 6,300 £ 3,350
Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty £ 4,500 £ 1,450

We understand your need to consult with more surgeons before making a decision. During your research period, make sure you compare similar operations when comparing.

Note: Patients who are having one more than one procedure at one time, will be offered discounted prices for the additional procedures. For example a face lift and a neck lift will be less costly when done together, as there will be only one hospital stay and one anesthesia.
